FRONT ROYAL — E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School raised $980 at its July 19 auditorium chair sale.

In March, the Warren County School board approved a renovation that will turn the auditorium into a “gymnatorium,” and Principal Jennifer Knox explained that money from the sale will be used to purchase items for the renovated space.

The purpose of the sale was to allow those who have a history with the school an opportunity to purchase the historic seats, Warren County School Board member Melanie Salins wrote in an email to The Daily.

The seats were sold for $10 each in sets of three or more, and 98 were sold.

Knox said that leaves the school with 530 chairs, and discussions are underway to figure out what to do with them. She mentioned the possibility of holding another chair sale around Aug. 13 at the start of the new school year.

In late March, the board approved a $288,000 bid from Lantz Construction Co. of Winchester to work on the gymnatorium project.

The gymnatorium renovation is nearing completion, with a final inspection set for next week, according to Knox.

Knox stated she is looking forward to the students’ excitement for the new gym.

“It looks fabulous, and we are very excited to see our students’ faces when they see their new gym space,” Knox wrote.

I wish Handley High School had your work ethics. Instead, they threw chairs into I know of 2 30 cubic yard trash containers to go to the dump. What a waste.

Glad your school was able to make some money.
